Survival Guide

How would we react in the event of a nuclear reactor accident? Would we know what to do and how to face the immediate risks? How would we treat our loved ones? And how would we, as a society, cope with such a hypothetical crisis? These and similar questions are explored by artist Zuzana Pustaiová in her fictional-documentary project Survival Guide. On one hand, it is a literal “survival manual” – seemingly bizarre, yet in fact genuinely practical instructions on how to use ordinary household items to effectively protect one’s health in the event of a hypothetical nuclear accident. On a broader level, the artist reflects on the social phenomena that would inevitably accompany people’s attempts to save their bare lives, along with the moral dilemmas tied to them.“
